Darrell Eugene McCray, 81 year-old Weatherford resident, was born on December 19, 1943, on the family farm west of Custer City, Oklahoma, to George Lemuel and Emelia Gustina (Reuther) McCray and passed away on Friday, September 19, 2025.
Darrell was raised in Clinton, Oklahoma and Rogers, Arkansas. He attended Clinton High School before leaving to join the Army National Guard in 1961 where he obtained his GED. In 1962 he "cross trained" as he put it and joined the Air Force being stationed in multiple locations including Ramey Air Force Base in Puerto Rico and Clinton-Sherman Air Force Base in Burns Flat Oklahoma. After his service in the military, he returned to Oklahoma where he ran a full-service gas station in Clinton. On August 20, 1966, he married Betty Joe Klaassen in Pampa, TX and they made their home in Weatherford. Darrell worked as a route salesman for 45 years, working for multiple companies including Guy's Potato Chips.
In 1998, Darrell gave his heart to Jesus, was baptized and became a devout follower of Christ. He often said "Jesus reached down, took out my old heart and gave me a brand new one". He was a dedicated member of New Life Family Worship Center.
After retiring as a route salesman, he worked as a maintenance man at United Groceries in Weatherford and Clinton until retiring completely. Darrell and Betty celebrated over 51 years of marriage together until her passing in 2018. Family was everything to Darrell and he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Darrell also enjoyed woodworking and classic cars. He could often be found in his shop enjoying his time.
Darrell is preceded in death by his wife, Betty McCray; parents, George and Emma McCray; daughter, Jennifer McCray; one brother, George D McCray; and three sisters, Ann Gorbet, Ernestine Throckmorton, and Ruby Rogers.
Darrell is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Murray and husband Marcus, and Crystal Bryant and husband Jay of Weatherford; one son, Earnest Lone of Madill; 7 grandchildren, Derek Murray & Katie, Kevin Murray, Koner Bryant & Laci, Jayden Brinkley & Colby, Dathan Bryant & Jaryn, James Lone, and Ami Springfield & Charlie; 11 great-grandchildren; his New Life Family and 2 very close friends, Mary Golden and Rev. Billy Robinson.
