Funeral services for Darla Maurene Stuckey, 89 year-old Weatherford, Oklahoma, resident will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2014, 10:00 A.M. at the Federated Church with Rick Connelly officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Mountain View, Oklahoma, under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.

Maurene was born November 15, 1924, in Mountain View, Oklahoma, to Fred and Myrtle (Stone) Stuckey and passed away Monday, August 4, 2014 at Weatherford Regional Hospital. Maurene graduated from Mountain View High School in 1942, received her BA in 1945 and began her teaching career in 1945 in Anadarko, Oklahoma. She taught there for two years. Then she taught in Lu Junta, Colorado for two years. In 1949, Mr. Elmer Cecil asked her to teach in Weatherford. Maurene received her Masters Degree in 1953, and except for two years in Germany teaching for the Air Force, she taught at Weatherford High School until she retired in 1985. She became a member of the Federated Church in 1950 and remained a member until her death.

Maurene is survived by one sister, Jo Kimmel of Phoenix, Arizona, one nephew, Rick Grayson and his wife, Lindy, four nieces, Debby Anderson, Fran Randall, Kay Sundgren and Susan Kimmel, and one great-niece, Casey Anderson. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Barbara Grayson.

Maurene served as Sunday School teacher, board member, Board Chairman and member of many committees. She also held offices in Martha Circle and Christian Womens Fellowship. After her retirement she continued church work, served as an active board member of the Alan Markum Opportunity Workshop and helped the Womens Crisis Center and Shelter for battered women and children in Clinton.

Maurene traveled to many places most European countries, the Balkans, down the Amazon River, Central America, the Panama Canal, and Alaska.

Even though she had no children of her own, she was sustained by faith and love from her family, from close friends, and knowing and working with more than 5,000 students who belonged, at least, to her.

From Maurene: To family, friends, and former students I would like to sayMy life has been a happy, satisfying onea great adventureand all of you have made it so. Because I firmly believe in Christ and His promises to us, death and my life-after-death will be a great adventure, too.
