Daniel was born June 7, 1928, in Hydro to Daniel and Jane (Waters) Slagell and passed away Monday, May 4, 2020, at Maple Lawn Manor in Hydro having reached the age of 91 years 10 months 27 days.

Daniel was raised north of Hydro on the family farm and attended Hopewell Rural and Jabbok schools. He was in the 1W service in Pueblo, Colorado and Reedley, California where he met Josie. On March 18, 1955, Daniel married Josie Buller in Orienta, Oklahoma and made their home north of Hydro where they raised their family. Daniel farmed and ranched for 40 years before retiring in 1994. He enjoyed traveling, camping, trains, photography, grandchildren and visiting with friends and family. Memorials may be made to Peasant View Mennonite Church – Building Fund.

Daniel is survived by his wife of 65 years, Josie Slagell of their home in Hydro; four sons, Eugene Slagell and wife, Merri of Ayr, Ontario Canada, Dwight Slagell and wife, Joanna of Hydro, Dwayne Slagell and wife, Kerry of Hydro, and Byron Slagell and wife, Catherine of Bridgewater, Virginia; one daughter, Kathy Thomas and husband, Devert of Hydro; one brother, Layman Slagell and wife, Dorothy of Hydro; one sister, Beulah Switzer of Hydro; two sisters-in-law, Roberta Slagell and Verdella Slagell both of Hydro; eleven grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Carl Dean Slagell and Maxton Slagell.
