Obituary

Wallace Dan Williams went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 10:25 pm in Thomas, Oklahoma. Dan was born on October 20, 1942, in Vian, Oklahoma, to Wallace Ray Williams and Betty Jean (Horn) Williams.

Dan was one of five children.  The family lived in Vian where he attended Vian Elementary School and Vian High School for all twelve years.  He graduated with honors, with the class of 1960.

Dan loved sports and he was a high school All-Conference end in football.  He was an active boxer in high school and college. Dan was a proud member of the Cherokee Nation, and he was awarded a Cherokee Nation four-year scholarship at Northeastern State College.

Dan was quite ambitious and loved working.  Some of his jobs in high school were baling hay, cutting meat at Brockman's Store, and working at J.D. Hamilton's gas station on the weekends while attending college.

Dan was a very active member of the Vian First Baptist Church while growing up.  He attended the Weatherford First United Methodist Church and more recently the Weatherford First Baptist Church.

As a young adult Dan graduated from Northeastern State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics Education in July 1964.  He was the Chairman of the Mathematics and Science Department for two years at Muldrow High School, as well as their Mathematics and Science Teacher.  While at Muldrow he was chosen as one of Oklahoma's Outstanding Science Teachers along with one of his students being chosen as one of Oklahoma's Outstanding Science Students by the Edison Corporation.  Dan was a counselor for the United Methodist Boys' Ranch in Gore, Oklahoma in 1965.  He was a math teacher at Vian High School from 1966-1967.  He received a National Science Foundation Grant to study mathematics education at the University of Arkansas where he received his Master of Arts degree in Mathematics in 1969.  Dan and his family then moved to Weatherford where he was a professor of math at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.  He participated in the Upward Bound Program at SWOSU for several summers.  In the summer of 1972, he received a National Science Foundation Grant for Top 25 Outstanding Calculus Teachers in the Southern United States to study at the University of Montana.  In 1995 Dan retired from SWOSU with 26 years of dedicated service.  After retirement, Dan was the business service director of Quality Lifestyles in Oklahoma City for a short period of time and then became the owner and real estate broker of Dan Williams Real Estate.

Dan loved his family most of all.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  He will be missed by his soulmate and loving wife, Debbie; sons, Danny Williams and Brandon Williams of Oklahoma City; their mother, Ruth Ann Williams of Guthrie; stepson, Kyle Wager and wife, Aubrey of Yukon, stepdaughter, Kelsey Pugh and husband, Riky of Weatherford; stepdaughter, Ti Anna Pugh and husband, Robert of Dadeville, AL; his grandchildren, Jaxon and Kamdyn Williams of Weatherford, Michael and Cory Bashore of Florida; and four great-grandchildren, Beau and Knox Williams, Emeri Bradshaw, their mother, Randilyn Bradshaw all of Perry, and Kinsley Howell of Weatherford; one brother, Ned Williams and wife, Carolyn of Pawnee; sisters, Pamela Jones and husband, Ron, of Muskogee, Barbara Price of Tulsa; aunt, Dixie Ann Edwards of Sherman, TX; nephew, Grant Williams and wife, Christy; two great nephews, Gage and Grahm Williams; all of Morrison; father-in-law, Dwight Peterson and companion, Georgie Ford; brother and sister-in-law, Donnie and Tanya Peterson, nephew, Daniel Peterson all of Roosevelt.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Paula Kay Williams, grandson, Jarred Williams, wife, Kay Williams, brother-in-law, Jim Price, and mother-in-law, Janis Peterson.

A special thanks is extended to Sandy Baldwin, his "angel" caretaker, Donnie, Tracy, Robin, Crystal, Carolyn, and Rhonda at Shady Pines (Thomas); Good Shepherd Hospice, especially Kim, Shebli, Tressa, Regina, Leigh Ann, Sherri, and Sarah; and Dr. Blake Badgett, all of whom tirelessly cared for Dan and enriched his final months and days.  We can never thank you enough nor express what a help and source of comfort you have been to Dan and our family.

At Dan's wishes, there will be no funeral, but we would like to invite all family and friends to join together in celebrating his life on Sunday, September 25th, at our home at 112 Stablegate Lane in Weatherford.  It will be a casual come-and-go celebration from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Dan was a very giving person and never wanted to accept gifts for himself.  In lieu of flowers, we know that he would encourage everyone to donate to the Weatherford First Baptist Church, the United Methodist Boys Ranch in Gore, Oklahoma, or a charity of your choice on his behalf.  Thank you for the many comforting texts, phone calls, cards, Facebook comments, and food.
