Cody Alan
Massey
April 2, 1984 – January 17, 2022
Cody Alan Massey, 37, beloved by many, spirited and witty, a southern-country boy, rancher at heart, loyal to a fault, friend, father, brother, and son passed away January 17, 2022. Born to Farron Lee Massey and Brenda Carol (Davis) Massey Friesen in Weatherford, OK, which was always home, Cody resided in Halsey, OR working for Brandt as a territory sales manager.
Growing up in a small farming community, Cody was introduced to friends at Grandma Carol's daycare that began his mischievous ways, especially defying her allegiance to OU when he attended OSU. Throughout his high school years, he completed odd and end jobs, was a part of FFA, and spent nights on Deer Creek with his furbearer license trapping bobcats, beavers, and coyotes, which kept him out of trouble. He graduated from Weatherford High School in 2003, with his sights set on a career in agriculture.
Following high school, he attended Southwestern for one year before transferring to Oklahoma State University where he had many adventures: living in Park West where he made life-long friends, traveling for meat judging competitions, working in the Weed Science department, instigating rivalries between professors and rebuilding his truck in the shop. Even with all the excitement of college life, he graduated with an Animal Science degree in 2008.
With higher learning ahead, he moved to Starkville to attend Mississippi State University where he obtained his Master's in Weed Science. During his time in MS, he worked full-time in the Beef Unit as a herdsman and spent Saturdays as a ranch hand. Cody was rarely still and never bored; as a hard-working man, he enjoyed using his knowledge and skills to assist others.
Upon graduation from MSU in 2012, with his first baby, Casey, his Australian Shepherd in tow, he moved to Wyoming to work with his uncle as a tool pusher in the oil field. During his travels, he met Sara York at her parents' restaurant. Together, they brought Harper June into the world in 2015. They lived together in her family's farm house surrounded by a garden, free-range chickens, and open spaces.
Always brainstorming his next million-dollar idea, Cody problem solved the smallest inconveniences to contraptions that would make people's life easier. For Cody, there were never problems, only solutions, which translated also to the people he met. Ever up-beat, his positive attitude encouraged people to be content with what they had or go after their dreams.
Cody's greatest accomplishment was being a father, and his heart belonged fully to Harper. Despite circumstances around them, he prioritized her happiness and well-being above all else. He loved her more than anyone or anything in his life, and of all the titles Cody had, "Harper's dad" trumped them all.
He is survived by his mother, Brenda Friesen of Weatherford, OK, wife, Sara Massey and daughter, Harper, of Halsey, OR, sisters, Katheryn Friesen of Edmond, OK and Jennifer (Friesen) Jackson, and husband, Joshua of Chandler, OK. He was preceded in death by his dad Farron Massey and step-dad, Chris Friesen.
Most importantly, Cody leaves us with his expectant hope that something great is just around the corner. You can almost hear him telling us, "keep your chin up," because "he's still just being awesome."
