Clyde William Walker was born on May 20, 1940, in Oakwood, OK to Willie A. Walker and Lula Mae (Rhodes) Walker and entered his final resting place on October 30, 2026, in Mercy Hospital, Oklahoma City at the ripe ole age of 86 years, 5 months and 10 days.
Clyde, or as he was more commonly known Spud or Bud, grew up on a farm near Oakwood. He was the second of 7 children born to Willie and Lula Mae. He spent his days farming the land, milking cows and getting into shenanigans with his brothers and friends. Spud attended school in Eagle City and graduated from Oakwood in 1958. He was a member of the Eagle City Christian Church.
Spud started working on a local custom harvest crew with Vernie Martin at the age of 15. He enjoyed working the land so much he started his own harvest crew in 1960. Over the years, many young men spent their summers working on the crew, traveling from Texas to Canada with the family. Each year provided numerous opportunities to develop survival skills for all involved. One such young man, Rush Abercrombie, became a constant companion of Spud's. They were able to tolerate each other for at least 40 years, which was a feat. When Spud wasn't cutting a crop, he was working in the oilfield and driving a semi-truck. He worked for many years in the oilfield and always had a great get rich quick scheme. He never worried much about the little things, such as speed limits or the need for a driver's license. Spud had lots of family and friends in the Oakwood/Eagle City community. He enjoyed a good game of Rook with his family which often ended in an argument.
Clyde married Barbara Ann Lanning in 1961 and had four children. The family made their home on a farm near Eagle City before later moving to Thomas, OK. Clyde later made his home in Big Springs, Nebraska, a favorite stop for many years on the custom harvesting crew. After 60 years of harvesting, he retired in 2020. In his later years, Spud settled at another favorite spot, the enchanting town of Regent ND with a dear friend, Maggie Hewson.
Clyde is survived by his three daughters, Sheila Thomas of Thomas, OK; Kelli Spaeth and husband Calley of Thomas, OK; Melody Hamilton and husband Shayne from Arnett, OK; eight grandchildren, Sierra Binns, Dakota Thomas; Jimmie Litsch, Levi Stewart and Kade Litsch; Cody Walker, Brody Walker; and Riley Smith; 7 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Willie and Lula Mae Walker; siblings Clorus Amen, Lee Roy Walker, Gale Walker, Sally Crelly and Connie Richardson; son, Michael Walker; grandchildren Quinci and Logan Stewart and Micah Walker.
A memorial service will be held on Friday November 6, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the Eagle City Christian Church officiated by Jerry Yoder. Services are under the care of Lockstone Funeral Home of Thomas.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Maple Lawn Manor for the compassionate care they showed Clyde throughout his final years.
