Charlene Sue
Jackson
October 5, 1938 – June 17, 2025
Charlene Sue Jackson was born October 5, 1938, in Custer City, Oklahoma, to Gertrude and Floyd Baker and passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Corn Heritage Village of Weatherford at the age of 86 years.
When Charlene was two years old, her mother met and married Elton Alvin Freels, who would become the most significant father figure in her life. Charlene married Jerry Jackson March 18, 1960, and together they welcomed their daughter Kim two years later, in 1962. She was the consummate homemaker, while her husband was the outdoor caretaker. She cherished family gatherings, life at the lake, excursions to Oklahoma City, and country music. The anticipation of seeing her family filled her with delight, and she frequently dedicated days to preparing for their visits.
Charlene was a small-statured woman, yet her voice resonated with astonishing strength. Her drama teacher frequently selected her for school productions, confident that everyone, even those in the back row, would be able to hear her. This became a recurring theme of humor in her life.
She was a woman of faith and conviction. Charlene dedicated 20 years of her life to teaching third grade Sunday school at Washington Street Baptist Church in Hobart, and she cherished her time spent with children, who adored her in return. Even in her later years with dementia, one of her most frequent questions was, "Where are the kids?"
Charlene was a devoted, caring, and brave woman who made a lasting impact on those around her. Her warmth, appreciation, and generosity will forever be cherished. Her voice will be heard in the hearts of her loved ones forever.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Gertrude and Elton Freels and two brothers, Bert Baker and Charles Baker.
Charlene is survived by her husband of the home, Jerry Jackson, one daughter Kim Jackson, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
