Carolyn Jean Guenthner (née Dell), age 79, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 9, 2026.

Born on June 5, 1947 in McPherson, Kansas, Carolyn was a natural leader with a passion for learning and community. She attended high school in Thomas, Oklahoma and McPherson College in Kansas, graduating with a degree in elementary education. Upon graduating, she married James Allen Guenthner in June 1969, then moved to Miami County in Ohio and began her professional life teaching elementary school children, a role that reflected her lifelong dedication to helping others grow.

Carolyn later paused her teaching career to devote herself to raising her family. She eventually returned to the workforce in various roles, ultimately spending 25 dedicated years at a title loan closing agency before retiring in 2009. Over the years, Carolyn called several communities home, including West Milton, North Ridgeville, and Westlake, Ohio, as well as Citrus Springs, Florida. She enjoyed growing flowers (especially those of her favorite color pink) every spring through fall, then spending each Christmas season singing and listening to hymns and carols while preparing her favorite sugar cookie recipe.

A vibrant and organized presence in every organization she joined, Carolyn loved taking on leadership positions. She was a deeply active member of the West Milton Church of the Brethren and the Dunnellon First United Methodist Church as well as Order of the Eastern Star, where her service and leadership earned her the opportunity to serve as a Grand Officer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Byron and Virginia Dell (née Hillborn) and beloved husband, James Allen Guenthner.

Carolyn is survived by her four siblings, Warren Dell, Phillip Dell, David Dell, and Mary Ann Oblander (née Dell); her two sons, Andrew John Guenthner and Michael James Guenthner; her daughter-in-law, Kathy Lee Guenthner (née Harbron); and her cherished grandson, Jorden Paul Guenthner.

She will be deeply missed.
