Obituary

Long-time Weatherford resident Carolyn Kay Burchett passed away in Weatherford on June 27, 2026, at the age of 85.

Carolyn was born May 6, 1941, in Laramie, Wyoming to Arvel and Shila (Bennett) Atwell. She grew up and attended school in Richmond, Oklahoma. Carolyn graduated from Richmond High School in 1959. Carolyn graduated from Southwestern State College (SWOSU), in 1963 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Home Economics. Carolyn continued her education earning her master's degree in Elementary Education from Kansas State University. She taught kindergarten for Weatherford Public Schools for 22 years, retiring in 1998.

Carolyn was a long-time and active member of The Federated Church of Weatherford. Carolyn also volunteered her time at the Weatherford Regional Hospital and the Et Cetera Shop.

Carolyn, and her husband Stuart, made numerous contributions to the community over the years and were loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing them.

Carolyn very much loved her family and friends. She also cared deeply for the many students she was privileged to teach.

Carolyn is survived by her daughter Julee and her partner Maryann of Minneola, Florida, daughter-in-law Karen of Littleton, Colorado and four grandchildren; Riley, Libby, Kylee and Jaxson.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband Stuart, son Stacey, parents Arvel and Shila, and brother Dale.

Carolyn's final wish was that her cremated remains be scattered in Lake City, Colorado where she and her family spent many years vacationing. Her ashes will be scattered along with Stuart and Stacey's ashes near the family cabin.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Federated Church in Weatherford.

The family would like to thank Homestead Assisted Living and Memory Care of Weatherford, and Shepherd Home Health & Hospice of Clinton for the love and care they provided for Carolyn.
