Carl Dean
Slagell
February 25, 2013
Monday evening, surrounded by family, Carl Dean Slagell, (82) went home to be with his Creator and Savior, Jesus Christ. His service will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the Bethel Mennonite Church with his son, Lonnie Slagell and pastor, Bob Sprunger, officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Mennonite Church Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.
Carl Dean Slagell was born on the family farm near Hydro, Oklahoma on June 2, 1930, to Dan and Jane (Waters) Slagell. He left his earthly home to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, February 25, 2013. Carl Dean attended school at Hopewell Rural School. While attending the Pleasant View Mennonite Church he received Christ as his Savior.
Carl Dean served his country through 1W Service in Pueblo, Colorado and Reedley, California. He married Roberta Myers on August 12, 1956, at the Sweet Home Mennonite Church in Sweet Home, Oregon. They were blessed with seven children: Joyce, Lonnie, Anna, Karla, Tina, Kevin, and Julie, sixteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
His family will truly miss the vast knowledge of their beloved patriarch. He was intent on sharing memories of his life/childhood for the younger generation, writing many stories and poems for his family. His faith was strong to the end and he never failed to share his love of Jesus and the need for salvation with all he met. Along with his love for his family, he enjoyed music, farming, mechanics, photography and frequent picnics. An important part of his life was the ministry with the Slagell Quartet. He began singing with the quartet when he was fourteen and sang at over 400 funerals.
Carl Dean is survived by his wife Roberta Slagell of Hydro; children Joyce and husband Randall Switzer of Big Sandy, Texas; Lonnie Slagell and wife Susan of Hydro, Oklahoma; Anna and husband Brian Hatfield of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Karla and husband Don Troyer of Hydro, Oklahoma; Kevin Slagell and wife Kesia of Weatherford, Oklahoma; and Julie Slagell of Hydro, Oklahoma; sixteen grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren.
