Obituary

Burk McCurdy
August 2, 1950 – June 30, 2025

Burk McCurdy, 74, of Elk City, Oklahoma, passed away on June 30, 2025.

Born in Stanton, Texas, Burk was the oldest of seven siblings. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a Vietnam veteran. After the military, he spent most of his life working in the oilfield—hard, honest work he took great pride in. He often said he came up as "just a poor boy from West Texas," but he built a life that gave his family more than he ever had.

Burk was known for speaking his mind, standing firm in what he believed, and loving his people with his whole heart. To his grandkids, he was "Poppy," and he lit up telling stories about them as kids.

Above all, he loved his wife, Debbie aka Mimi. After she passed, the home they shared became his anchor.

He is survived by five children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his siblings, and extended family. He was preceded in death by Debbie and other cherished loved ones.

A service will be held July 7, 2025, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Weatherford, OK. In true Burk fashion, dress comfortably—and come ready to laugh, remember, and love big.
