Obituary

Billy "Bill" Bert Webb was born in Custer City on March 13, 1930, to Ted and Jessie (Sherbourne) Webb and passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2020 in Mustang, at the age of 90 years, 4 months and 12 days.

Bill married his high-school sweetheart, Norma Jean Matthews, on December 24, 1950, at the United Methodist Church in Custer City.

After graduating from OSU with a degree in Agronomy, Bill farmed and ranched in the Custer City area. Following that, he spent 4 years in Ethiopia teaching farmers how to improve their agricultural and animal husbandry practices as a part of the Point 4 Program implemented by President Truman.

After earning an MS degree in Agronomy from OSU, he managed the OSU Research Station at Altus.  He completed his Ph.D. in Agronomy at Kansas State University and assumed the position of Director of Research for the OSU Agriculture Experiment Stations across Oklahoma for the rest of his professional career.  He retired in 1995 but continued to work as a consultant for the department until 2002.

Bill and Jean were active members of Highland Park Methodist Church in Stillwater for over 30 years, followed by Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City for more than 15 years.  He was Scout Master with the Boy Scouts of America, a board member for the Wesley Foundation at OSU, and a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.  Bill was also an avid woodworker and handmade wooden ink pens that were given as gifts to people all over the world.  He was the epitome of graciousness to all who knew him.  Suggestions for memorial donations are Habitat for Humanity and Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.

His wife of almost 68 years, Jean, preceded him in death.  Bill is survived by six children, 17 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren.  His children are Dr. Ted Webb and wife Judy of Yukon, Janette Moyer and husband Robert of Mustang, Rick Webb and wife Jeannette of Barrington, New Hampshire, Rod Webb of Southern California, Dan Webb and wife Teresa of Yale, and Jeane' Redmond and husband Larry of Basehor, Kansas.  Bill is also survived by one brother, Gene Webb of Grand Island, Nebraska.
