Billy James Floyd was born September 27, 1929, in Marlow, OK and passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2020, in Weatherwood Assisted Living in Weatherford surrounded by his wife and children, at the age of 90 years, 7 months, and 9 days.
James was born to Robert Ernest and Nola Gertrude (Wilcoxson) Floyd in their home on Wild Horse Creek near Marlow. He was delivered by his father and his umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck which gave him a ruddy complexion and a nick name of "Rusty."
He met the love of his life at Friendship school and at 10 years of age. Lorene Barrett told her sister "she was going to marry that boy (James)". On August 28, 1948, James Floyd married Lorene Barrett. They had four children, Perry, Danny, Roger and Jan.
James traveled to California looking for work and found it with Tatum Produce Company in Hesperia, California. He worked there until his father-in-law, Conce Barrett became ill. He and his family moved to Seminole County, Oklahoma. James started his career in the oil and gas industry. He worked his way up to a production superintendent for Consolidated Oil and Gas and his career moved him from Oklahoma to Montana to Texas and back to Oklahoma.
After retirement James and Lorene traveled visiting family scattered through out Oklahoma, Idaho, Montana and California. They wintered in Topock, Arizona where he fished and Lorene played group games.
James was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lewis, Jack and Edward; three sisters, Minnie, Louise and Kathleen; and one grandson, Chad Floyd. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Lorene Floyd; one daughter, Jan Floyd of Thomas; three sons, Perry Floyd and wife, Norma of Shawnee, Danny Floyd and wife, Linda of Thomas and Roger Floyd and wife, Therese of Thomas; two sisters, Karleen West of Konawa and Martha Young and husband, Rick of Chickasha; one brother, Joe Floyd of Lawton; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Memorials may be made to Western Oklahoma Christian School or to Weatherwood Assisted Living.
