Obituary

Betty Alma Walker, 90, was born on February 23, 1935 in Sedalia, Missouri to Arthur Franklin Hayworth and Loretta Marie (Burford) Hayworth, and passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2025 in Weatherford, Oklahoma.

Her early life was spent between Sedalia and California. Betty was saved as a young girl while living in California, this was the start to being dedicated to Christ and church for the rest of her life. She graduated High School in California in 1953, and she was very proud of this accomplishment, as not many girls her age were making it that far.

Betty met Marion Arthur Carman at a grocery store where he was working. It was during the Korean War and he had just gotten out of the Army. They married on April 4, 1954 and moved to Oklahoma City. In 1961, they moved again and made their home in Camargo, Oklahoma. Eight children were born to this union - Sylva, Arthur, Glenn, Don, David, James, Pamela and Charles. The family attended the First Baptist Church in Leedey, Oklahoma and Betty was insistent that the children did not miss a Sunday. They all sat together on what became known as the "Carman Pew". The kids recall, when you got older you could ask to sit somewhere else, but if you ever got in trouble you had to come back to the pew.

When Marion passed away in 1976, the family stayed in Camargo until Betty married Wilbur E. Walker on February 7, 1978. Betty and Wilbur moved to a farm outside Vici, Oklahoma. After Wilbur passed away on November 28, 1986, Betty moved to Weatherford.

Betty raised her 6 boys and 2 girls with incredible love and grit. Betty was not hesitant to show her kids off or brag on them, especially Charles. She was also extremely proud of Don and his accomplishment as a professional pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies. Betty spent a lot of time canning and loved cooking and baking for her family, friends and neighbors she looked out for. One of the grandchildren lovingly recalls her staying with them on Christmas in Austin, Texas and making french toast. Teaching the grandkids to cook and bake was a favorite way to spend her time. Betty's love of cooking did not end with her; one grandson went on to Culinary School after years of cooking and baking with his grandmother.

Betty's working years were spent as a cook for Camargo Schools, the Vici Nursing Home and the SWOSU Cafeteria. She was a long-time member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Weatherford and was very involved. Over the years, she was a Senior Ladies Sunday School teacher, helped prepare church breakfasts and cooked at Falls Creek as well. Betty was a ride or die, she loved her dogs and she was always up for anything. She always wanted to travel, and many trips were taken to Marshall, Texas to visit her sister, to Utah to visit her brother, and of course to Missouri to visit her mother and other family members still living there. The happiest moments of Betty's life were when her family was together. There is not enough wall space in all of Weatherford to accommodate her family photos.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marion; husband, Wilbur; sisters, Ruby Purl and Doris Jean Cook; brother, James Hayworth; grandson, Dewayne Ryan; granddaughter, Chelsea Byrum; and great-grandson, Atticus Byrum.

Betty is survived by her children, Sylva Dukes of Weatherford, Arthur Carman of Weatherford, Glenn Carman of Weatherford, Don and Kathy Carman of Florida, David and Vicky Carman of Elk City, James Carman of Weatherford, Pamela and John Kelly of Lubbock, Texas, Charles and Rikki Carman of Weatherford; 27 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 8 great, great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Betty will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 2, 2026 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Weatherford, Oklahoma. A graveside committal service will be held at 3:00 PM at Camargo Cemetery in Camargo, Oklahoma.
