Betty LaRue Unruh was born July 11, 1933, in Elk City to Lural Andrew and Ruth (Brewster) Smith and passed away Monday, June 29, 2020, at Maple Lawn Manor in Hydro having reached the age of 86 years, 11 months and 18 days.
Betty was raised in Elk City and later moved to Hinton where she graduated from Hinton High School in 1951. She went on and earned an Associate Degree from Draughn Business School in Oklahoma City. She worked at the Ford Garage in Hinton. On February 21, 1954, Betty married Nelson Unruh at Bethel Methodist Church and made their home south of Hydro. She worked alongside her husband on the family farm and raised their family. They went on several mission trips with their church. Betty enjoyed gardening and canning, cooking, winters spent in Yuma, AZ, her bowling league, church activities, and going to the grandkid's activities and stock shows. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Hydro.
Betty is survived by her two sons, Mike Unruh and wife, Rachel of Elk City and Marlin Unruh and wife, Lisa of Hydro; one sister, Pat Payne of Hydro; ten grandchildren; and twenty-three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Junior Smith and twins in infancy; one daughter, Michelle Dougherty; and son-in-law, John Paul Daugherty.
