Obituary

Betty Louise Franklin was born May 22, 1932, in Hydro, Oklahoma to Clarence and Leva (Lindsey) Harris and on Saturday, September 28, 2019 went to be with her Lord at Cherokee County Nursing Center in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, after a long battle with Alzheimer's having reached the age of 84 years, 4 months and 6 days.

Betty was raised and attended school in Weatherford, Oklahoma, graduating from Weatherford High School in 1950. After Betty's marriage to her first husband James (Jake) Ramey, they moved around due to Jake being in the Army. After military service they moved to Fairland, Oklahoma where their first son Michael was born. In 1956 the family moved to Fairbanks, Alaska. Shortly after arriving in the then Territory of Alaska, their second and last son Dennis was born.

Betty's passion for her family was second to none. In Alaska, her love of gardening and flower beds blossomed, which kept her entire family busy. When fall began, harvesting and canning the fruits of her labors commenced. By first snow all was canned and in the pantry, which led to her having a very well-fed family during the winter. It was hard work for everyone, especially for Michael and Dennis.

After the sudden death of her first husband Jake in 1971, Betty and son Dennis moved to Weatherford, Oklahoma. That is where most of the extended family lived. It was in Weatherford where she met and married Gene Franklin. Upon retirement they moved to Ft. Cobb where they spent many happy years. Medical issues forced them to move to Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma to be closer to medical care and son Dennis.
Upon Gene's death, Betty moved to Tahlequah and remained there until her death. Always a loving mother and wife.

She is survived by her sons Michael and Dennis Ramey, daughter-in-law Judith Ramey, six grandchildren including James Ramey and his wife Stephanie Ramey, Patrick Ramey and his wife Jess Ramey, and Tana Altland and husband Mark Altland. She is also survived by ten great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by numerous loving nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leva Harris and Clarence Harris, her first husband James E. Ramey, and her second husband Gene Franklin, great granddaughter Mikal Dawn Ramey, brothers Carl and Virgil Harris, sisters Opal Blakley and Veta Minor.
