Mass of Christian Burial for Barbara Kay Van Leeuwen, 77 year-old former Weatherford, Oklahoma resident, will be held Thursday, November 20, 2014, 10:00 A.M. at St. Eugene Catholic Church with Father Christopher Tran officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home. A Wake service will be held on Wednesday evening, 7:30 P.M., at the funeral home.
Barbara was born October 31, 1937, in Clinton, Oklahoma to Ernest and Ida (Schilberg) Sawatzky and passed away November 13, 2014 in Fulton, Missouri. Barbara was raised near Clinton, OK and attended school in Clinton, OK. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1955. Upon graduation, she attended the University of Oklahoma where she earned her Registered Nurse degree. On June 17, 1956, she married Donald Frederick Van Leeuwen in Clinton, Oklahoma. She worked as a nurse at various regional hospitals including Clinton Regional Hospital and the V.A. Hospital in Clinton. She worked for years with the elderly in Weatherford, Oklahoma area and loved helping people. Her favorite hobby was working with cattle on the family farm.
Barbara is survived by two sons, Donald Van Leeuwen, Jr. and wife, Lisa of Weatherford, OK and John Van Leeuwen and wife, Karen of Keller, TX; daughter, Marilyn L. Van Leeuwen of Fulton, Missouri; two sisters, Helen (Pat) Gugino of Oklahoma City, OK, and Carol Sawatzky of Weatherford, OK; four grandchildren, Sarah, Bryan, Ryan, and Katherine; and former spouse, Donald F. Van Leeuwen of San Antonio, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Ida Sawatzky; sister, Ethyl Ziino; and son, Bryan L. Van Leeuwen.
