A Celebration of Life service for Arthur Chester Penner, 91 year-old Weatherford, Oklahoma resident, will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 10:00 AM in the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church with Pastor Tim Sandy and Ken Gardner officiating. Burial will follow at Corn Mennonite Brethren Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.
Arthur Chester Penner was born on the family farm near Cordell on March 20, 1921 to Henry and Lena Buller Penner. He left his earthly home to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, February 16, 2013. Art was the third youngest of 13 children.
Art attended and graduated from Corn School in 1940. While attending the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church he received Christ as his Savior and was baptized on December 8, 1940.
Art served in the United States Forest Service as a smoke jumper to control forest fires in Washington and Oregon.
Art married the love of his life, Namie Hoock on August 5, 1947 in the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church. They were blessed with two children, Jim and Pam, four granddaughters and five great-grandchildren. They had recently celebrated the anniversary of sixty-five happy years together.
Art enjoyed worshipping at the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church. He served at various times as Treasurer, Usher, and Caterer.
Art helped lay brick on the previous Corn Mennonite Brethren Church and layed every brick on the current church. He was a bricklayer until the time of his retirement.
Art and Namie enjoyed many Colorado Vacations, spending time with old friends and making new friends.
Art is survived by his wife Namie Penner of Weatherford; one son, Jim Penner and his wife Elaine of Weatherford; one daughter Pam Scanlon and her husband Mike of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren, Erin and her husband Matt Bernett, Tisha and husband Todd Franz, and Kyler and husband Brett Roper; and five great-grandchildren, Carter Bernett, Sawyer and Rawley Franz, and Asher and Logan Roper. He was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers, Henry, J.R., Frank, Menno, Harvey, Leon, Vernin, and Harold; four sisters, Marianna, Lena, Clara, Leona; and one granddaughter, Shae.
