Obituary

Funeral services for Anita Mae Wile, 94-year-old Oakwood, OK, resident, will be held on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Oakwood Christian Church with David Beck officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home of Thomas.

Anita was born on March 9, 1924 to Charles Andrew and Martha (Taylor) Knight in Stroud, Oklahoma, and passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, in Weatherford, Oklahoma, surrounded by her loving family. Anita was raised and attended school in Stroud, Elk City, and Oakwood, Oklahoma, graduating from Oakwood High School with the class of 1942. On November 14, 1942, she married Harry J. Wile in Watonga, Oklahoma, and they made their home on the family farm south of Oakwood. She worked as a deputy assessor and as a clerk for the Dewey County Abstract office, as well as a cashier at IGA in Watonga and Oakwood Groceries.

Anita had a passion for life; she genuinely loved people and could carry on a conversation with everyone she met. Anita enjoyed traveling with her family, and many times she would join them on cross-country road trips. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, while faithfully attending their athletic and school events. She loved NBA basketball, and spent much of her time at home watching games with Harry. They ALWAYS cheered for opposing teams and had countless good-hearted debates about the game results.

After Harry passed, much of Anita's time was spent supporting her beloved Oklahoma City Thunder. To say Nita was an avid fan would be an understatement. She supported her Thunder exactly the way she lived her life, passionately. She watched every game on TV (sometimes more than once) and was able to attend a game each year for her birthday. One of her most memorable experiences was getting to watch two of her great-grandchildren attend Russell Westbrook's basketball camp. She really enjoyed getting to chat with Russell Westbrook's father and was very eager to offer Thunder Head Coach Billy Donovan her expert advice.

Anita, or Granny Nita as she was affectionately called by those who knew her well, was a familiar figure at area sporting and school events. She so enjoyed attending the many activities in which her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their friends participated. She never missed an opportunity to visit and always had friendly, encouraging words for anyone who would listen. Her most steadfast advise was "Family is what matters", and she lived faithfully by this belief.

Anita is survived by one son, Harry Wayne Wile and his wife Janelle of Oakwood; one daughter, Margaret Morris and husband Roy Lee of Taloga; one sister, Dona Daniels of Talihina; seven grandchildren, James Wile and Shannon Wile of Oakwood, Stephanie Edmondson and husband Brandon of Ames, Marci Miller and husband Brandon of Custer City, Jodi Crowdis of Custer City, Laci Hart and husband Matt of Thomas, Brandi Whitacre and husband Brandon of Ringwood; and nineteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Cloyd, Charles, and Eddie; four sisters, Blanche, Beth, Lavelle, and Nona; and one grandson, Anthony Andrew Wile.
