Amanda (Thomas)
Stutzman
November 18, 1924 – November 30, 2019
Our dear mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Amanda (Thomas) Stutzman was born November 18, 1924, south of Dodge City, Kansas, to Ben and Lovina (Mullet) Thomas. She was anxiously awaiting the call to go home and peacefully passed away on November 30, 2019, at Oakwood Manor, Brooksville, Mississippi, reaching the age of 95 years.
Mom moved a few miles north of Thomas, Oklahoma, with her parents and siblings when she was four years old. She grew up on a farm in an Old Order Amish home, learning to survive during the "Dirty 30's". At the age of 15, the Holy Spirit spoke to her while reading the book, "In His Steps" and she gave her heart to God.
Mom was married to our father, Levi Stutzman, on October 21, 1943. During dad's CPS days in Colorado Springs, Colorado, they met young men and their wives from the Holdeman church and were impressed with the Spirit they felt. After they got home from there, they attended services at the Fairview Congregation, Fairview, Oklahoma. On March 27, 1951, mom and dad were baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, by Min. Frank Wenger.
They made their home on a farm close to Weatherford, Oklahoma, where she spent most of her life. Their union was blest with 3 sons and 3 daughters. Mom was a wonderful example to us in word and deed. She faithfully helped dad on the farm or doing carpenter work, teaching us to do with our might what our hands found to do. She was thrifty, sewed our clothes, baked often, raised a garden, put up much fruit, was very resourceful, and kept the place neat and tidy.
The last nine years of her life were spent in Oakwood Manor at Brooksville, Mississippi. She often expressed her appreciation for being able to live there, thankful for the spiritual blessings she enjoyed there and the many friends she made were very dear to her. She appreciated and loved the staff dearly and was always thankful for the tender, loving care she received. She loved to quilt and had the gift of blending colors when piecing quilts, to which she gave God credit.
Mom learned to lean on the Everlasting Arms and to trust God amid the tempests and storms that tossed her little boat. We often marveled at the courage she had to accept challenges and change, and the grace to confess her pride and short comings. She believed God cared about all the things that come our way in life. "It will be alright," was a favorite little phrase she used.
Those left behind with cherished memories are her children; Miriam and Ed Ratzloff, DeRidder, Louisiana; Nathan Stutzman and companion Deb Adair, Dublin, Texas; Katherine and Errol Koehn, Okolona, Mississippi; Tim and Angela Stutzman, Weatherford, Oklahoma; Titus and Grace Stutzman, Hydro, Oklahoma; One brother, Ira Thomas, Goshen, Indiana; One sister, Lovina and A.J. Stutzman, Goshen, Indiana; One son-in-law, Howard and Marilyn Martin, Okolona, Mississippi; Two daughters-in-law, Regina Stutzman, Okolona, Mississippi; Kim Suter, Weatherford, Oklahoma; Twenty-five grandchildren; Sixty-five great grandchildren; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Levi; a daughter, Mary Ann Martin; a granddaughter, Kelly (Stutzman) Jantz; three brothers and two sisters.
